Environmental taxes and environmental protection expenditures

Environmental taxes or eco-taxes, as an example of environment-related transfers, represent payments whose assessment basis has a proven harmful effect on the environment. The following motion chart allows, for example, a comparison of energy, pollution, transport and environmental taxes as a whole as well as a comparison of those with gross domestic product or gross value added for the EU area. The level of national environmental protection expenditure can be used as an indicator of the relative economic importance of environmental protection for an economy.
